FAQs

WHAT IS FINE SILVER/SILVER CLAY?

Fine silver is made from precious metal silver clay, which looks and feels like regular sculpting clay but contains fine particles of pure silver mixed with a non-toxic organic binder. It is eco-friendly since the silver particles are recycled silver reclaimed from medical, scientific and communications equipment.

Once the clay is fired in the kiln, the binder burns away leaving a fine silver piece which is 99.9% pure silver (compared to sterling silver which is only 92.5% pure silver, the remainder being mainly copper). The fired piece is then polished in a tumbler to make it lovely and shiny!

Fine silver contains no other metals. It is tarnish resistant and, due to its purity, it is less likely to cause any reactions on the skin.

Fine silver pieces can be hallmarked at the Assay Office if they weigh more than 7.78 grams. Since my jewellery pieces are below this weight, I choose not to have them hallmarked.

WHAT OTHER METALS DO YOU USE?

I also use 925 sterling silver, 14 carat (14K) gold filled or 14 carat rose gold filled findings and chains in my jewellery.

WHAT IS 14 CARAT (14K) GOLD FILL?

Gold filled jewellery should not be confused with gold plated jewellery. Gold filled (also known as “rolled gold”) is not solid gold but is comprised of a layer of pure 14 carat gold which is permanently bonded to a base metal, usually brass. Rose gold filled metal is made by alloying the gold filled metal with copper to give it its pretty pink blush tone.

The layer of gold in gold filled jewellery is much thicker than normal electroplated coating (gold plated) and must be a minimum of 1/20th (or 5%) of the total weight of the item. This is at least 100 times more gold content than plated items, which, at best, have only ½ a micron of gold plating (equivalent to just 0.0005 mm). The gold on gold plated items is therefore almost worthless and will start to rub off or flake away pretty much immediately.

Gold fill, on the other hand, is very hard wearing and will not peel or flake, like gold plate, under normal wear. You can (with proper care) wear it to bed, in the shower and while you exercise, although it will keep better if you remove it beforehand. I’d strongly suggest avoiding pools and hot tubs with any type of jewellery because of the chlorine/chemicals used. Sea water should also be avoided because of the salt content, which is particularly damaging to rose gold jewellery and to gemstones.

Gold filled jewellery wears, looks and lasts like solid gold and is pretty much tarnish resistant. Anyone who can wear pure gold can also wear gold filled without worrying about any allergic reactions.

With proper care, gold filled jewellery can often last for decades. The thick layer of solid gold means you are getting a beautiful, durable, high quality piece of jewellery without the hefty price tag of solid gold and it is therefore commonly used as an economical alternative to pure gold.

ARE THE GEMSTONES IN YOUR PIECES GENUINE?

Yes, all pieces stated to contain gemstones are made using high quality semi precious and precious gemstones. All materials used are clearly stated in each item's description.

HOW ARE YOUR ITEMS PACKAGED FOR SHIPPING?

All my jewellery ships in a Tiny Tree Frog gift box made of recycled card, inside a bubble envelope.

Wire wrapped charms and pendants are carefully wrapped in bubble wrap and placed inside a plastic grip-seal bag. The bag is then placed inside a bubble envelope for further protection.

DO YOU CHARGE EXTRA SHIPPING IF I ORDER MORE THAN ONE ITEM?

No, I only charge one flat rate shipping charge. Order as many items as you like and only pay the same fee for shipping.

You can see my current shipping charges by clicking on the "Shipping & Policies" tab on individual items and then selecting your location from the drop down menu.

HOW LONG WILL MY ITEM(S) TAKE TO ARRIVE?

I ship in the UK using Royal Mail first class post.

International orders are shipped via either International Standard shipping (not tracked) or International Tracked shipping - you can choose which during checkout.

According to Royal Mail’s website, delivery to Europe is within 3 to 5 working days and to the rest of the world within 5 to 7 working days of posting. This refers to the time for the package to ARRIVE in the country of destination and not subsequent Customs clearance and onward transmission by local postal services, which can take longer.

However, most international orders arrive within around two weeks, although I cannot guarantee a delivery date.

Please see my policies for further information about shipping.

DO YOU ACCEPT RETURNS AND/OR REFUNDS?

Please refer to my policies for full details regarding returns and refunds.

You have the right to return any item within 14 days of receipt for a full refund, including original shipping/postage costs. Please note that the cost of shipping the item back to me remains the responsibility of the buyer in such circumstances (excludes custom/personalised items and earrings for pierced ears, for hygiene reasons).

If your item is faulty or damaged on arrival (or doesn't arrive at all!), please contact me as soon as possible and we'll work out a solution, either a replacement or a refund.

CAN I TRACK MY ORDER?

I ship in the UK using Royal Mail first class post which does not include tracking and no signature is required on delivery. If you would like to add tracking/guaranteed delivery, please contact me before placing your order and I can arrange this for you at extra cost.

International orders are shipped via either International Standard shipping (not tracked) or International Tracked shipping - you can choose which during checkout.

Please note that tracking does not mean that your item will be created quicker, nor does it mean faster shipping time or a guaranteed delivery date.

HOW LONG BEFORE MY ITEM IS READY TO SHIP?

My fine silver pieces ship within 3 to 5 working days of ordering as they are often made to order and take time to create.

Other items are ready to ship within 1 to 3 working days after receipt of cleared payment, depending on the time of day your order is received. You will be notified once your order has actually shipped.

Please allow for international time zones if you are outside the UK.

Except during busy periods, I do not work weekends. If you place your order on a Friday evening or over the weekend, I will not normally begin creating your piece until Monday.
